OLYMPICS - Russia's gymnastics, fencing, triathlon, judo and volleyball teams have been cleared to compete at the Rio Olympics. More than 100 athletes from the 387-strong Russian Olympic team have been barred in connection with the country's doping scandal, from sports including athletics, canoeing, sailing, swimming, rowing and modern pentathlon. Meanwhile, 11 weightlifters have produced positive samples in the second wave of doping retests from the 2012 London Olympics.

OLYMPICS - President Vladimir Putin says the exclusion of Russian track and field athletes from the Rio Games for doping is discrimination, and a political campaign had been waged against the nation's sportspeople.

CRICKET - Australia's batsmen have been exposed by Sri Lanka's spinners in the first Test in Kandy as the tourists were dismissed for 203 on day two. Australia took an 86-run first-innings lead at stumps after skittling Sri Lanka for 117 on day one.
