SOCCER - Last season's A-League strugglers Central Coast have suffered a 2-1 FFA Cup defeat to semi-professional Melbourne club Green Gully. The Mariners seemed set for victory on Tuesday night in Melbourne until the home side drew level with five minutes remaining. Green Gully midfielder Liam Boland then netted a memorable 40-metre extra-time winner.

OLYMPICS - Two-time major champion Stan Wawrinka has pulled out of the Olympics due to an injury that worsened during last week's Rogers Cup in Toronto. His withdrawal leaves the Rio Games without half of the ATP top 10-ranked men.

OLYMPICS - Australian IOC member John Coates says the decision to allow some Russian athletes to compete at the Rio Games is morally and legally correct. Meanwhile, the president of Russia's Olympic Committee, Alexander Zhukov, says dozens of clean Russian athletes have been denied fundamental human rights by being banned from the Rio Games.

OLYMPICS - Swimming's world governing body FINA has allowed Russian swimmers Vladimir Morozov and Nikita Lobintsev to compete at the Rio Olympics.

OLYMPICS - Big serving Sam Groth has been added as a singles player to Australia's Rio Olympic tennis squad. World No.168 Groth accepted the late invitation on Tuesday, boosting the Australian tennis contingent to 10.

CRICKET - West Indies are hurtling towards another heavy defeat after losing four quick wickets on day four of the second Test against India in Jamaica on Tuesday. Starting their second innings with a deficit of 304 runs, the home team collapsed to 4-48 for four by lunch at Sabina Park.

CRICKET - Sri Lanka have suffered an injury setback ahead of the second Test against Australia in Galle with seamer Nuwan Pradeep in doubt after suffering a hamstring strain during training.

CRICKET - Steven Finn has been recalled to replace injured allrounder Ben Stokes for England's third Test against Pakistan starting on Wednesday at Edgbaston.
