OLYMPICS - The bulk of Australia's Rio Olympics team will touch down in Sydney this morning for an official welcome home. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will lead the celebrations.

OLYMPICS - Meanwhile, arriving in a plane with a gold-painted nose cone and bearing the word "victoRIOus", Britain's Olympic team has returned home to jubilant scenes after the country's record-breaking medal haul in Brazil.

PARALYMPICS - Russia have lost an appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport against a blanket ban from next month's Rio Paralympics over a state-sponsored doping program. At least 250 Russian competitors are set to miss the September 7-18 event.

GREYHOUND RACING - The controversial bill to ban greyhound racing in NSW has been passed in the state parliament by 49 votes to 30.

SWIMMING - US swimming star Ryan Lochte lost the last of his four major sponsors, Japanese mattress maker Airweave, days after he admitted to exaggerating his story about being robbed at gunpoint in Rio during the Olympics.

CRICKET - The first Test between South Africa and New Zealand ended in a draw due to a sodden outfield at Kingsmead. Only 100 overs were possible in the match.

OLYMPICS - Brazilian police say they've uncovered emails involving International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Patrick Hickey that discussed the illegal sale of Olympic tickets. Three members of the Olympic Council of Ireland are suspected of involvement in the illegal sales, police said.

CYCLING - Rookie rider Lilian Calmejane of France has won the fourth stage of the Spanish Vuelta, as Colombian Darwin Atapuma took the overall lead of the grand tour.
