Sports minister pressures WADA on Russia

Sports Minister Bridget McKenzie says Russia's non-compliance with handing over its Moscow anti-doping laboratory data by December 31 should be dealt with ASAP.

Russia's failure to hand over data from its anti-doping laboratory by its specified deadline should be dealt with quickly and efficiently, Australia's minister for sport says.

The World Anti-Doping Agency last week confirmed Russia had missed its December 31 deadline to supply the data, with the matter to be dealt with by the independent compliance review committee on January 14.

Sports Minister Bridget McKenzie says the Russian doping saga has plagued world sport for several years, calling for a resolution.

"It is therefore critical that this current compliance matter be dealt with effectively and expeditiously, in a way that ensures governments' and the public's confidence in our integrity system," she said in a statement on Sunday.

Senator McKenzie vowed to release in coming weeks the government's response to a review on Australia's integrity in sports.
