Spots on line in Saturday's NRL trials

There will be no shortage of positional battles when six pre-season NRL trials are played on Saturday.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR IN SATURDAY'S NRL TRIALS

*ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA V NEWCASTLE, WIN STADIUM, 4PM

Corey Norman and Ben Hunt's halves combination is expected to get its first run for the Dragons with Gareth Widdop moving to fullback. Euan Aitken, Tim Lafai and Zac Lomax are battling for centre spots. One will probably be forced to the wing. Speedster Matt Dufty will also be keen to impress. Newcastle will be near full-strength with Kalyn Ponga moving to five-eighth and Connor Watson to fullback and Danny Levi expected to start at hooker.

* GOLD COAST V NORTH QUEENSLAND, SUNSHINE COAST STADIUM, 6PM

Tyrone Roberts gets a start at halfback for the Titans and the chance to push his play-making case if Alexander Brimson goes to fullback for round one. Bryce Cartwright will also start for the Gold Coast in a bid to reclaim a bench spot. Te Maire Martin will play five-eighth for North Queensland where he'll saddle up next to Michael Morgan in round one but none of their leading fullback contenders have been named.

* SOUTH SYDNEY V PENRITH, REDFERN OVAL 6PM

Alex Johnston gets a shot at South Sydney's fullback spot with Greg Inglis still recovering from knee problems. Johnston played No.1 last year and will want to keep it ahead of Inglis and rookie Corey Allen, who will start on the wing. Dylan Edwards also has the No.1 jersey he wants at Penrith, while Sione Katoa will be desperate to impress at hooker ahead of Wayde Egan.

* CANBERRA V CANTERBURY, BEGA, 6PM

Jack Wighton should get his first run in the halves in Canberra's last trial, with he and Aidan Sezer desperate to stay put ahead of Sam Williams. There will also be a battle at the back between Nick Cotirc and Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad. Will Hopoate could play both fullback and centre for Canterbury, giving Nick Meaney a chance to push for the No.1 spot.

* CRONULLA V MANLY, SHARK PARK, 7:30PM

Cronulla's next generation have the chance to impress with Bronson Xeri pushing for a centre spot and Blayke Brayley as a bench hooker. Josh Morris plays his first game for Cronulla and Kyle Flanagan is in the halves. Manly are yet to name their side but Kane Elgey and Trent Hodkinson will likely be battling for the No.6 jersey.

*BRISBANE V WYNNUM MANLY, KOUGARI OVAL, 8PM

Jack Bird returns from injuries in the centres for the fringe Broncos team, while Tevita Pangai will start at lock.

*All times AEDT
