Spurs destroy Thunder in NBA playoffs

The Spurs have shot a stunning 60 per cent from behind the three-point line in the NBA beat down of the Thunder.

Patty Mills was off target, but it did not matter as his red hot San Antonio Spurs teammates buried the Oklahoma City Thunder in game one of their NBA Western Conference semi-finals.

The Spurs won 124-92 on Saturday in San Antonio.

The game was effectively over at the end of the first quarter when the Spurs shot 82 per cent from the floor to build a 43-20 lead.

At halftime they were up 73-40, the sixth largest lead at the main break in playoff history.

"We had a great night and they had one of their bad nights," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said.

The Thunder were unable to control the rampaging Spurs forwards LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard.

Aldridge's 38 points came from connecting with 18 of his 23 shots and Leonard had 25 points from 10-13.

Spurs guard Danny Green had 18 points with five of his six three-pointers successful.

The Spurs ended the game with a 61 per cent field goal percentage and 60 per cent from behind the three-point line while the Thunder had 41 and 26 per cent respectively

Australian point back-up guard Mills had a cold hand, hitting just one of his four field goals, including missing all three three-point attempts, for three points.

The Thunder's boxscore exposed their poor night, with Kevin Durant scoring 16 points from 6-15 shooting and Russell Westbrook's 14 points from 5-19.

Game two is scheduled for Monday in San Antonio.

Andrew Bogut's Golden State Warriors open their Western Conference semi-final best-of-seven series against the Portland Trail Blazers in Oakland on Sunday.
