About 100 people have fled a squatter camp in the Solomon Islands capital after a number of houses were burnt by a mob.

The first house belonging to Renbel Islanders was set alight on Monday night in Honiara's Independence Valley.

The incident coincides with the expected release of a mixed review of the 10-year long, Australian-led peacekeeping mission in the Solomon Islands, after the withdrawal of troops last year.

Local resident Paul Takiika told Stefan Armbruster people are scared after the clash with workers of the company that own the land.
