Offspinner Akila Dananjaya claimed five wickets on debut as Sri Lanka completed a comprehensive 215-run win over Bangladesh in the second Test in Dhaka on Saturday.

The victory inside three days meant the tourists sealed the series 1-0 after the first Test in Chittagong ended in a draw.

The Sri Lankan spin trio of Dananjaya, Dilruwan Perera and Rangana Herath shared 10 Bangladesh second-innings wickets as the hosts were out for 123 runs in 29.3 overs while chasing an improbable target of 339.

Dananjaya returned figures of 5-24 while left-arm spinner Herath had 4-49 and Perera 1-32.

Dananjaya snared eight wickets on debut, including his 3-20 in the first innings.

Herath became the highest Test wicket-taker as a left-arm bowler, eclipsing Pakistan paceman Wasim Akram's 414 wickets.

Mominul Haque was the highest scorer for Bangladesh in the second innings with 33 while Mushfiqur Rahim made 25.

Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal was surprised the hosts had gone into the deciding match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on a turning track.

"This was a really good series. The first game was a nightmare for the bowlers and this one was a nightmare for the batters," Chandimal said at the presentation.

"The guys executed our game plans really well out in the middle. After the first game we thought the second pitch might be a turning wicket. We were surprised, because we have all the experienced spinners."

Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah blamed his side's batting in the first innings for the loss.

"Feeling really disappointed because we knew the pitch would get us a result," he said. "In this sort of a wicket you should cash in on the first innings.

"Their bowlers did the job really well, keeping the pressure on us every time we came out. Our bowlers (only) did well in patches."

Earlier on Saturday, Sri Lanka ended their second innings on 226, adding to their 222 from the first innings. Bangladesh scored 110 in their first innings.

The visitors added 26 runs from their overnight total of 8-200. Roshen Silva, who guided the lower order, was unbeaten on 70.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam struck twice in his first over of the day to wrap up the Sri Lankan innings.

Taijul was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh, returning figures of 4-76, while pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman took 3-49.
