As the clean up in flood-ravaged Queensland continues, the town of St George has been applauded for its preparation for last week's floods.
In March last year, St George's historic floods prompted the community to take precautionary measures for future disasters.
"It was quite evident to us we had to get some more, some better flood mapping so we could be confident we could protect our whole community," St George Mayor Donna Stewart said.
St George's carefully-positioned levees prevented the community from being inundated this time.

"I don't think any town could be better prepared than St George is at the moment," Queensland Disaster Co-ordinator Mick Slater said.
The Queensland government is now collecting data from the current flooding, which it hopes, among other things, identifies how effective levees in deluged areas were.
