Canterbury centre Chase Stanley's wretched run of injuries has continued, with a knee problem ruling him out for the remainder of the NRL season.

Stanley, who has played four NRL matches in 2016, tore his anterior cruciate ligament while playing reserve grade against the Wests Tigers on Saturday and needs surgery.

It's the third time Stanley has injured a knee after he first required a reconstruction in 2011, before he tore the knee attachment to his calf in 2014.

The 27-year-old also needed a third shoulder reconstruction over the off-season, before he endured a hamstring injury in his 100th NRL match earlier in the season, from which he was on the comeback path.

Stanley's brother, Kyle, was forced to retire from rugby league at age 24 last year after requiring a fifth knee reconstruction.
