Collingwood AFL Women's marquee player Moana Hope has been booked by police for speeding.

The offence occurred on Saturday morning, just hours before the Magpies' breakthrough win against the Western Bulldogs.

Hope, who has been at the forefront of the AFLW's marketing campaign, was fined and will lose three demerit points after she was clocked doing 97km/h in an 80km/h zone.

"As a club we expect all our athletes to behave safely and within the rules on our roads and we are extremely disappointed in Moana's actions," Magpies AFLW football manager Meg Hutchins said.

"We take matters of road safety very seriously and understand that speeding is a contributor to many road accidents.

"We also understand that our players are role models and this behaviour is not in line with the standards we set as a club.

"This is a stark reminder to all our athletes that driving above the speed limit is both dangerous and reckless."

The incident occurred the day after Geelong skipper Joel Selwood, an Australian Grand Prix ambassador, lost his license for a month after he was caught doing 127km/h in a 100km/h zone.

The Cats have a long-standing relationship with the Transport Accident Commission, with star midfielder Patrick Dangerfield part of their campaign to promote road safety in Victoria.

The club is set to meet with the TAC to determine if any further action will be taken over the Selwood incident.

Collingwood was forced to end its lucrative sponsorship agreement with the TAC in 2008 after Sharrod Wellingham, now with West Coast, was booked for drink driving.
