Star Pie De Goey fit to face Sydney in AFL

Collingwood are managing a long injury list after nine rounds of the AFL season but Jordan De Goey has been passed fit to take on Sydney at the SCG.

Collingwood will welcome back damaging forward Jordan De Goey for their AFL clash with Sydney, but a host of key Magpies remain on the club's lengthy injury list.

De Goey was a late withdrawal from the 41-point win over St Kilda with a shin complaint, with Darcy Moore also pulled out late at the MCG on Saturday with an ankle injury.

De Goey will take on the Swans at the SCG on Friday night, but Moore remains sidelined, along with Mason Cox (ankle), Jamie Elliott (hamstring), Tom Langdon (knee) and Taylor Adams (groin).

Nathan Buckley declared De Goey fit to resume after Wednesday's main training session.

The coach told reporters a call would be made on Adams after his troublesome groin cooled down following the session, but the midfielder took to Twitter to rule himself out soon after Buckley's weekly press conference ended.

"After a more than optimistic few days of recovery, just fell short out on the track today," Adams tweeted.

Langdon was unable to see out the match against the Saints and the outlook is not bright for the important defender, who could be headed for surgery.

"He's had some issues with that knee before ... we're still working out exactly what it is, but it's problematic," Buckley said.

"Talking to him today, he's disappointed, he's concerned about it.

"We just need to find out a bit more about the injury before we know exactly how we're going to approach it ... whether he needs surgery or whether it's just rest."

Cox's absence will stretch to four matches, once again postponing a tough decision on whether the beanpole American can share the same forward line as the in-form Ben Reid.

But that selection conundrum could come to a head next week for Buckley and his panel.

"Looking at him today, he's not that far away," the coach said of Cox.

"If he was right to go I wouldn't have been surprised the way he ran around.

"But we've got to take the advice of the medical staff.

"We want to make sure that when we bring blokes back that they're not carrying something through the rest of the year either."

Travis Varcoe will miss the Sir Doug Nicholls Round clash after the Pies accepted a one-game suspension for a high hit on St Kilda's Ed Phillips.
