Starc now 4th on ICC's allrounder rankings

Mitchell Starc is now the fourth best Test allrounder in the world, according to the International Cricket Council's latest rankings.

Australia spearhead Mitchell Starc has been ranked the world's fourth best Test allrounder on the International Cricket Council's latest charts.

Starc, who snagged two wickets and contributed 91 runs in the low-scoring first Test between Australia and India in Pune, has risen three spots.

The left-armer leapfrogged English allrounder Ben Stokes, who earlier this month was sold for $A2.82 million at the Indian Premier League auction. It was the highest ever price for a non-Indian player in the Twenty20 competition.

Starc only sits below India's gun spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, plus Bangladesh veteran Shakib Al Hasan.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann and skipper Steve Smith were both full of praise for Starc after he helped the tourists record their first Test win in India since 2004.

"Starcy's innings (was impressive), to score 61 was a real big moment in the game," Smith said of Starc, who teed off with remarkable success on a pitch that both sides struggled to score on.

Starc, who clubbed 84 during the most recent Boxing Day Test, now averages 25.36 with the bat - more than Mitch Marsh.

Ashwin maintained top spot on the ICC's Test bowling charts, but Australia paceman Josh Hazlewood is now level on points with Jadeja in equal second.

Smith's impressive century, which was another crucial factor in Australia taking a 1-0 lead in the ongoing series, helped the skipper consolidate his advantage atop the ICC's Test batting rankings.

Smith has reached a career-high 939 rating points, while India captain Virat Kohli is in second place with 873 points following his double failure in Pune.
