Starc rested by NSW in Shield clash

NSW will rest recovering Test spearhead Mitchell Starc for the rest of the Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland at the Gabba.

NSW have confirmed Test spearhead Mitchell Starc will be rested for the remaining two days of their day-night Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland at the Gabba.

He will be replaced on Thursday by fellow left-arm quick Doug Bollinger.

Starc finished with 1-62 off 19 overs in his first match back from a leg wound that required 30 stitches and ruled him out of the recent domestic one-day tournament.

He will be rested ahead of next week's first Test against South Africa in Perth.

Starc fielded at slip for NSW on the first two days of the Shield match and was forbidden to slide or dive in the field to avoid re-opening his stitches.

NSW will resume in their second dig on day three at 0-51, with David Warner not out 41 and the Blues holding an overall lead of 48.
