Stars can cover loss of key BBL trio

Melbourne Stars seamer Scott Boland will most likely play his last game of the current Big Bash League series when Stars host Hobart Hurricanes at the MCG.

Melbourne Stars are looking to send off their trio of Australian limited-overs players with a win when they take on Hobart Hurricanes at the MCG on Wednesday night.

The announcement of Australia's 13-man squad for the five-match ODI series against India cost the Stars key players James Faulkner, Glenn Maxwell and Scott Boland, most likely for the rest of this Big Bash League series.

The Stars have won their past two matches to breathe life into their BBL05 campaign and Boland is confident his side has enough depth to carry on their winning form after the departure of the trio.

"I still think we've got a strong enough side," Boland said on Tuesday.

"We bat deep enough and bowl deep enough that I think we'll be fine going into the last few rounds.

"I'm sure the coaching staff have some things in place to cope with that (player loss).

"I'm sure we'll be fine. We've got some nice momentum going now and other teams are losing players as well - it's not just us."

Boland has been on the periphery of the Australian Test squad as an injury replacement in recent weeks but didn't manage to break through for his Test debut.

Despite not playing, his involvement with the national set-up kept him out of Saturday night's historic local derby against Melbourne Renegades that attracted nearly 81,000 fans to the MCG.

"Missing out on playing in front of 80,000-odd is not ideal but being in the Australian squad is what I've wanted to do for my whole career," Boland said. "I've dreamed of playing for Australia and that's getting closer and closer."

The Hurricanes are currently clinging to fourth spot on the BBL ladder after Monday night's loss to the Renegades in Hobart and stuck with the same lineup despite the comprehensive defeat.
