State funeral for indigenous leader Scott

The family of revered indigenous elder and activist Evelyn Scott has accepted the Queensland government's offer of a state funeral.

Indigenous elder and activist Evelyn Scott will be honoured with a state funeral in Townsville.

The life-long campaigner for Aboriginal rights, who was involved in the referendum to recognise indigenous Australians in 1967, died late last month.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Dr Scott's family had been offered a state funeral, to honour her life as a leader and champion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and they had accepted. A date is yet to be set.
