A 28-year-old man is missing after he was caught in floodwaters on Friday afternoon. His two companions have since been rescued.
“Last night we received a report of a man missing after being swept off a crossing near Peppimenarti,” NT Police Commander Porter said.
“He was in a car that had attended to cross a floodway yesterday afternoon, the car was swept off the crossing with three people inside."
Residents from the Daly River community have been evacuated to Darwin amid a forecast of flooding.
Acting Chief Minister Willem Westra van Holthe said the flood situation is intensifying, with the Daly River expected to reach the major flood level of 14 metres by Saturday afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicts that the flooding events could last four to five days.
Director Northern Territory Emergency Services Andrew Warton urged people to exercise caution around any floodwaters, including crossings, drains and pipes.
