State of Origin clock

The key moments of State of Origin game three between Queensland and NSW at Suncorp Stadium.

KEY MOMENTS OF STATE OF ORIGIN III

2nd minute: Captain in his final Origin game, Billy Slater catches a bomb with his first touch and is quickly met by a Latrell Mitchell shoulder charge that earns his side a penalty.

4th: Slater looks to have scored the opener, leaping high from a neat Daly Cherry-Evans cross-field chip. However, replays showed the fullback had knocked on while contesting for the ball.

8th: Damien Cook streaks through the ruck to put NSW on the front foot for the first time.

11th: With the line in sight, James Tedesco's cut-out pass is intercepted by Valentine Holmes. The Queensland winger races 95m for his seventh Origin try in five games and converts for a 6-0 lead.

21st: Starved of the ball, NSW almost manufacture an equaliser through James Tedesco, only to have it called back for a Tom Trbojevic knock-on while battling for a high ball.

31st: James Maloney is sin-binned for a hip and shoulder on Slater as he was hunting another grubber on the try-line. After five straight sets, the Maroons are forced to walk away with a penalty goal. 8-0.

37th: Down a man, NSW score against the run of play when Tom Trbojevic plucks a long Cameron Munster pass and runs 95m. 8-6.

40th: A Cook short ball finds Tedesco in a gap and the fullback scores under the posts to give his side a halftime lead, despite having just 32 per cent possession. 12-8.

HALFTIME: NSW 12 Queensland 8.

50th: Held down in a tackle, NSW debutant Tariq Sims bizarrely tackles a back-peddling Ben Hunt, giving away a penalty to gift Queensland possession.

51st: Holmes is on the end of a slick Queensland passing sequence as the hosts finally find a way over for a conventional try. He misses the sideline conversion. 12-12.

56th: NSW gain easy metres down the middle, but Angus Crichton holds his pass too long and misses an open James Roberts.

58th: Munster dummies and goes through the line, finding Gavin Cooper who has Cherry-Evans in support for the go-ahead try. 18-12.

64th: Under the pump, Queensland are let off the hook on their own line when David Klemmer is ruled to have tripped Ben Hunt.

66th: James Maloney's ambitious short kick hits the unsuspecting arm of Felise Kaufusi and goes out, handing Queensland a scrum no more than 12m out.

74th: A Nathan Cleary grubber forces a drop out, with Dane Gagai winning the race to the ball to deny a try.

77th: A flying Holmes spectacularly intercepts a Maloney pass to win back the ball just as the Maroons looked spent.

79th: Queensland survive a taxing set of six as NSW launch one last raid on their line.

FULLTIME: Queensland 18 NSW 12.
