Steve Smith ruled out of IPL

Australian cricket captain Steve Smith will miss the rest of the Indian Premier League, but should still to play the one-day series in the West Indies.

Steve Smith will miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League as he struggles to overcome an ongoing wrist injury,

The Australian captain will fly home for treatment on his right wrist, however the national team's medical staff expect him to be fit for next month's one-day tri-series in the West Indies against the hosts and South Africa.

"From the information we have so far, this doesn't appear to be a serious injury," Australian team physio Alex Kountouris said.

"But we are keen to give him the time to recover and rehabilitate before heading to the West Indies at the end of May."

Smith copped the injury last week, but still went on to post scores of 101 and 45 for the Rising Pune Supergiants.

He will undergo further assessments this week on his return home.

The news comes just a day after Australian allrounder Mitchell Marsh was also forced to return home from the Supergiants with a side strain.

Australian batsman Usman Khawaja has been called in as a replacement in the squad that has already lost Englishman Kevin Pietersen and South African Faf du Plessis.
