Stingrays terrorise California

A spate of stingray attacks on the beaches of California are putting a sinister edge on holiday-making.

CNN reports from La Jolla, where dozens of beachgoers have suffered at the barbed tails of the marine creatures.

Stingray attacks are extremely rare, though a notable case caused the death of Australian environmentalist Steve 'the Crocodile Hunter' Irwin in 2006.
