Stockholm bids for 2022 Winter Olympics

Stockholm has thrown its hat in the ring for the 2022 Winter Olympics, lodging a formal bid to host the Games.

Stockholm is bidding for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Swedish Olympic Committee says it submitted the bid on Monday to the International Olympic Committee.

Stockholm hosted the 1912 Summer Olympics.

Under its 2022 bid plans, the Alpine events would be held in the northern Swedish ski resort of Are.

Thursday is the deadline for submission of bids to the IOC.

Stockholm joins another Scandinavian capital, Oslo, in the 2022 race.

Other declared candidates are Lviv, Ukraine; Beijing and the northern Chinese city of Zhangjiakou; Almaty, Kazakhstan; and a joint bid from Krakow, Poland, and Jasna, Slovakia.
