Chris Stone, a former adviser to John Howard, has been appointed as NSW Liberal director in the plum role that reportedly pays $350,000 a year.
The 40-year-old replaces respected veteran Tony Nutt who quit the role in January to run the federal division.
NSW party president and newly elected federal MP Trent Zimmerman says Mr Stone will start in the role on Monday.
He described Mr Stone as a seasoned political campaigner with more than 15 years' experience.
"He will be a tremendous asset as we work towards the 2016 federal election," Mr Zimmerman said in a statement on Friday.
Mr Stone served as campaign manager at the NSW Division from 2009 to 2011, helping secure one of the largest electoral swings at the historic 2011 state election, Mr Zimmerman said.
Both Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and NSW Premier Mike Baird endorsed Mr Stone's appointment.
"Mr Stone is the right person to lead the NSW Secretariat," said Mr Baird.
The PM said he was looking forward to working with Mr Stone in the lead up to the federal election.
