Skipper Darius Boyd has predicted a very different Brisbane to run out against Melbourne in the NRL's season opener thanks to new coach Anthony Seibold.
The Storm appear to have the Broncos' measure after winning 15 of their past 17 clashes, including the last five.
But Boyd hinted Melbourne may be in for a surprise at AAMI Park.
"There are some exciting things that we have put in place (under Seibold), especially in attack," Boyd said.
"But it all starts with defence ... if we are on, it will go a long way towards us winning.
"And what a way to test ourselves than going to Melbourne and taking on last year's grand finalists."
Boyd said Seibold's new game plan would look to harness their backline strikepower, with a fully fit Jack Bird now chiming into the centres with NSW strike weapon James Roberts.
"There is a lot more structure around that, trying to get the centres and wingers the ball," Boyd said.
But Boyd admitted most work had been done on tightening up their defence, which leaked 500 points last season.
He was confident they could turn it around instantly with Matt Gillett back on deck.
Gillett was restricted to just five games last year due to neck and shoulder injuries but will return against Melbourne in the unfamiliar position of lock.
"It was a young team last year and we had a lot of injuries," Boyd said.
"No excuses but young guys bring inexperience (in defence).
"Having Matt Gillett back and those guys with 12 or 15 games under their belt, now they know what to expect."
Meanwhile, impact forward Tevita Pangai looks set to overcome a hamstring niggle and take his place on the bench against the Storm.
