Storm undecided on NRL halves for Cowboys

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy is undecided who will play five-eighth against North Queensland, with Ryley Jacks and Jahrome Hughes the options.

Young Storm players Ryley Jacks and Jahrome Hughes are in a battle to wear the five-eighth jersey for their NRL clash against North Queensland, with regular playmaker Cameron Munster out with an ankle injury.

Jacks was named at No.6 for the Friday night clash in Townsville but before boarding the plane to head north, Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy said he was undecided.

In Jacks' favour is that he has spent plenty of time there this season as an injury cover, and is fresh after being left out of the team that beat Manly on Sunday.

Meanwhile, exciting 22-year-old Hughes was one of the Storm's best against the Sea Eagles, although he played at fullback.

"We haven't decided because we've only had the one quick training session and we played both of them there," said Bellamy.

"Jahrome hasn't played much there to be honest whereas Ryley has so we'll have another look on Thursday at training and decide from there."

Munster is expected to return for their big clash with the Sydney Roosters on Saturday week, although he has his foot in a moon boot and was using a mobility scooter early this week.

"You get a broken toenail and they put you in a boot these days," Bellamy said.

"They're thinking it's only going to be a week but it depends how he recovers and he's usually a pretty quick healer."

The Storm players are on light duties all week, with Bellamy saying they've even reduced the lengths of their team meetings given their short preparation, with a five-day turnaround.

He said the 40-6 demolition job on Manly had helped their cause as they were able to rest towards the end of the match.

"The ball wasn't in play for that long so we got a chance with that score to rest players like Dale (Finucane) and Jesse (Bromwich).

"Hopefully that's going to help us on Friday night."
