A severe thunderstorm warning for central Australia has been cancelled, the Bureau of Meteorology says.

The warning for the southern Lasseter district in the Northern Territory was issued on Wednesday for severe winds, after a gust of 95km/h hit Ernabella just after 6pm.

The BoM says the immediate threat of storms has passed but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings issued if necessary.
