Storm warning for central Queensland

A severe thunderstorm warning is in place for parts of central Queensland, including Bundaberg, Gladstone and Rockhampton.

A severe thunderstorm is set to hit central Queensland, with the weather bureau warning it could bring damaging winds, heavy rain and large hailstones.

Forecasters warn the storm could hit the Capricornia, Whitsundays, Central Coast, Central Highlands, Coalfields and Wide Bay-Burnett regions on Friday evening.

"Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours," the Bureau of Meteorology said.

Residents in Bundaberg, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Hervey Bay, Biloela, Blackwater, Yeppoon, Moranbah and Marlborough may be impacted.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services have advised those within the warning zone to seek shelter and secure loose outdoor items.

The weather bureau says they are also keeping a close eye on another possible storm which could develop east of Dalby and head towards Brisbane and southeast Queensland.
