Storms and wind ease over SA

Storms and strong winds have eased across SA with the government praising the work of emergency volunteers.

South Australia's Emergency Services Minister Corey Wingard has thanked volunteers for their work to clear debris and help home-owners as wild weather swept across the state.

At one stage on Monday, more than 33,000 properties were without power after strong winds and storms brought down trees and powerlines.

By late afternoon that number had dropped below 10,000.

The Bureau of Meteorology had a severe weather warning in place early in the day but cancelled the notice later as conditions eased.

Wind gusts of more than 105 km/h were reported in some parts of the Adelaide Hills.

The State Emergency Service responded to more than 330 calls for assistance amid widespread reports of minor damage.

Mr Wingard said it was timely to reflect on and recognise the exemplary efforts of the state's volunteers from the SES and the Country Fire Service.

"They are called-out at any time of the day or night and leave their work and families to respond and help," Mr Wingard said.

"This is why our volunteers are highly respected and I commend their dedication and commitment towards their local communities."

The wild weather didn't bring much in the way of rain with Adelaide having just under five millimetres from the trough and lower pressure system that moved across SA.
