Melbourne have decided to cop a one-game NRL ban for Will Chambers' dangerous contact citing instead of taking an early plea that would've allowed him to face Brisbane this week.
Chambers was hit with a grade one dangerous contact charge after appearing to raise his knee when tackled by NSW hooker Damien Cook in State of Origin I on Wednesday.
An early guilty plea would've allowed him to take on the Broncos on Sunday, however Chambers will sit out the match after the Storm opted not to contest the charge.
Cook briefly required medical attention for a sternum issue after the incident before eventually playing on and is likely to back-up against Gold Coast on Friday.
The Storm's decision also means Chambers will only have 20 carryover points instead of the 90 he would've had with the early plea.
He will be available for Melbourne's round 15 clash with Newcastle, which will be his final chance to impress before Queensland's team for game two is selected.
Chambers' suspension is likely to mean a call-up for centre Cheyse Blair, who hasn't played since suffering a season-ending ankle injury last July.
Blair was eventually replaced by Curtis Scott, who went on to be a part of the 17 players that claimed the grand final win over North Queensland.
