Most Melbourne NRL players would do anything they could to escape a blast from their firebrand coach Craig Bellamy.

But second-rower Felise Kaufusi says he needs a rev-up from his coach to get his game going.

The Test and Queensland representative was unhappy with his performance in their one-point win on Anzac Day over the Warriors.

He felt his defence was off, which he attributed to a lacklustre mindset.

Ahead of their Friday night clash with Cronulla, Kaufusi thought he could use some strong words from Bellamy.

"I've certainly got a lot improvement left in me," said Kaufusi.

"My defence wasn't up to scratch - I was falling off tackles.

"I need a bit more prodding from Craig - I need to take a more-aggressive mentality leading into the game and hopeful that transfers out on the field."

Kaufusi felt the recent demotion of premiership centre Curtis Scott had shaken up the team.

Scott was dumped from the Storm line-up before the Warriors game with Bellamy losing patience his right edge's defensive lapses.

Heading into that game, nine of their 12 tries conceded came through their right-side defence.

Kaufusi, also defending on that side, said Scott's absence had unsettled the team, who also had to get used to new centre Marion Seve.

"Having him go back to Queensland Cup has shaken the side up.

"With the change in combination, players injured, suspended and now Curtis on that right side, we are struggling a bit for cohesion so we have to make sure everyone is on the same page."

Kaufusi said despite suffering only one loss from seven rounds, the Storm still had plenty to work on.

"We've still got a lot of improvement - the last couple of weeks have been close matches, but I don't think we're quite there yet and that's probably a good sign as there's a lot of time left."
