Storm's Vunivalu prefers real NRL wins

You won't find Melbourne wing sensation Suliasi Vunivalu playing Pokemon Go and not just because Storm coach Craig Bellamy has warned his players not to.

Bellamy told his NRL players he didn't want them running around Melbourne at all hours playing the virtual game that has taken the world by storm.

Vunivalu said he downloaded the game but despite his athletic prowess found it wasn't for him.

"There's too much walking," he said.

The 20-year-old seems to only have one speed and that's fast.

With 16 tries to his name with seven rounds remaining he's set to eclipse the record set by another Storm debutant Israel Folau, who crossed 21 times in his first NRL season.

Vunivalu had a laugh when asked if he was disappointed he only managed one try in the Storm's last round win over Newcastle such has been his volume of four-pointers.

"Getting a win is more important than a try," Vunivalu said.

"I don't think about the ties I've scored. My main focus is just about being in the team each week and winning."

Vunivalu has formed a lethal wing combination with fellow Fijian Marika Koroibete, who has been like a big brother.

Vunivalu said it was special to play with another Fijian.

"When you have another Fijian playing in your team we work hard together to make the other one better," he said.

"It feels good to see other Fijians in the competition doing well.

"It gives a boost to the other young Fijians back home to play their best so what we're doing is not just for us it's for our families back home and kids who want to have a career in rugby or rugby league."

At the end of the season Koroibete will leave the Storm for the Melbourne Rebels, with rugby also running through Vunivalu's veins, naming former All Black winger Joe Rokocoko as one of his favourite players.

But Vunivalu said he was committed to Melbourne for the next two years, making Bellamy even happier than the lack of interest in Pokemon Go.
