Monty Python comedy legend John Cleese was forced to take a $5,100 taxi ride from Oslo to Brussels after he was stranded amid Europe's volcanic ash travel chaos.
Norwegian TV reports Cleese spent 30,000 kroner (US$5,100) on the trip after he was stuck in Norway when huge swathes of European airspace were shut down because of a huge cloud of ash spewing from an Icelandic volcano.
"We checked every option, but there were no boats and no train tickets available," the comedian told Norway's TV2 broadcaster.
"That's when my fabulous assistant determined the easiest thing would be to take a taxi," he explained, following his appearance on a popular Scandinavian talkshow.
The taxi is carrying two extra drivers for the 1,500km drive, which should get Cleese to Brussels by Saturday afternoon. He will then take the Eurostar to London.
'No hurry'
"It will be interesting. I'm not in a hurry," he said.
"I will think about a joke you've probably already heard: How do you get God to laugh? Tell him your plans," Cleese said.
The comic and actor is not the only one spending heavily on taxis as the volcanic ash spreads over Europe.
According to Oslo Taxi, drivers have made numerous trips between Oslo and Stockholm - and a number of fares have gone even further.
"The longest trip so far was from Oslo to Paris," Oslo Taxi spokesman Lars Dolva told the NTB news agency.
