Strasbourg beat Guingamp on penalties in League Cup final

PARIS (Reuters) - Racing Strasbourg won their third French League Cup title when they beat En Avant Guingamp 4-1 on penalties after the final had ended in a dull goalless draw after extra time on Saturday.

Lionel Carole scored the winning spot-kick at Lille's Pierre Mauroy stadium at the end of a hugely disappointing final.

Guingamp knocked out Paris St Germain, League Cup winners in the last five seasons, in the quarter-finals and they had won three of their four matches en route to the final on penalties but goalkeeper Marc-Aurele Caillard was powerless this time.

Strasbourg, who also won the League Cup in 1997 and 2005, will play in the second qualifying round of the Europa League next season.
