Strikers to offer coaching role to Broich

Departing Brisbane Roar great Thomas Broich is in the sights of A-League expansion candidates and possible derby opponents Brisbane Strikers.

The Brisbane Strikers will offer Thomas Broich the chance to become their inaugural A-League coach if their expansion bid is approved by Football Federation Australia.

Bid advisor Miron Bleiberg said the consortium was saddened to learn of Broich's pending departure, with the dual Johnny Warren medal winner set to leave Brisbane Roar at the end of the season.

But in a move sure to rile their crosstown rivals, Bleiberg said the former National Soccer League champions would soon approach the 36-year-old with any job in the football department on the table - including the head coaching position, if he wants it.

"We have discussed it between our stakeholders and we would like to see him involved in any capacity in the future working with us," Bleiberg told AAP.

"Personally I always enjoyed watching him whenever he played, even when I coached against him.

"He has given incredible things to the sport in this city.

"It would be a waste not to utilise a soccer brain like his.

"If we are admitted and he is still playing at that time, we would be happy to have him play for us.

"If not, we're not discounting any position in the football department for him - coach, youth team coach, assistant, whatever."

The Roar have already told Broich there would be a role for him at the club, most likely in their new academy, upon his retirement.

Broich is yet to consider his future, but has said he's keen to play on.

The Strikers, meanwhile, are continuing to make steady progress in their bid to join the A-League, although FFA is still yet to release their expansion criteria and no timeframe has been set.

"We are meeting on a regular basis," Bleiberg said.

"Sooner than later we are going to officially approach FFA with some documentation to show that we are ready whenever we will be required and still strongly behind the idea of having a second team in Brisbane."
