Strong Black Ferns team to face Wallaroos

World women's rugby champions New Zealand have named a formidable squad to face sixth-ranked Australia in two Tests.

Decorated captain Fiao'o Faamausili has emerged from retirement and will lead women's rugby world champions New Zealand in twin Tests against Australia.

Faamausili, 37, was lured back to the sport when it was announced the Black Ferns would be contracted to NZ Rugby for the first time.

The police officer and veteran hooker had hung up her boots after leading New Zealand to a fifth World Cup crown in six editions at last year's tournament in Ireland.

The bulk of that squad is back to face the Wallaroos in matches which precede the men's Bledisloe Cup Tests - in Sydney on August 18 and in Auckland a week later.

Faamausili and vice-captains Kendra Cocksedge and Selica Winiata share 125 caps between them while there are also eight uncapped players in the 28-strong Kiwi squad.

World No.6 Australia finished ranked seventh at the World Cup, following two wins and three losses.

They were beaten 44-17 in the last trans-Tasman clash in Christchurch a year ago.

BLACK FERNS: Chelsea Alley, Kendra Cocksedge, Krysten Cottrell, Kiritapu Demant, Ruahei Demant, Theresa Fitzpatrick, Alena Saili, Kristina Sue, Monica Tagoai, Stacey Waaka, Renee Wickliffe, Selica Winiata, Eloise Blackwell, Les Elder, Fiao'o Faamausili (capt), Aldora Itunu, Linda Itunu, Pip Love, Charmaine McMenamin, Aleisha Nelson, Joanah Ngan-Woo, Te Kura Ngata-Aerengamate, Marcelle Parkes, Jackie Patea-Fereti, Leilani Perese, Aroha Savage, Charmaine Smith, Cristo Tofa.
