A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit the Andaman Islands in the Indian Ocean early Tuesday, raising concerns it could spark a local tsunami.
The quake struck at a depth of 127 kilometres (80 miles), with the epicentre 120 kilometres from Port Blair on the Andaman Islands.
The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was a small possibility of a local tsunami near the centre but no wider risk.

"A destructive widespread tsunami threat does not exist based on historical earthquake and tsunami data," the Center said in a statement.
Burma lies to the north of the Andaman Islands and Indonesia to the south.
New Delhi is more than 2,500 kilometres away to the northwest.
