A severe weather warning has been issued for parts of South Australia with a vigorous cold front moving across the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology says wind gusts of up to 100km/h are possible over Kangaroo Island and parts of the southeast of the state on Sunday.

Locations most likely to be affected include Kingscote, Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge, Naracoorte, Meningie and Bordertown.

The worst of the weather will miss Adelaide though the city is tipped to have winds around 55km/h and up to five millimetres of rain.
