New South Wales have turned to former Blues legend Peter Sterling to reverse their flailing State of Origin fortunes.
The NSWRL on Friday announced Sterling as coach Laurie Daley's new adviser for next year's Origin series, replacing long-time confidant Bob Fulton.
"I am absolutely thrilled to have someone of Peter Sterling's calibre take up such an important role with New South Wales Rugby League," said Daley on Friday.
It continues a mini-overhaul of the Blues' Origin staff, which last week brought in another ex-Blues representative in John Cartwright as assistant coach.
Victoria Cross recipient Mark Donaldson is the new deputy team manager.
Fulton stepped down from his role as Daley's right-hand man at the end of this year's failed Origin series campaign, citing increased responsibilities as consultant at NRL club Manly.
He was strongly criticised by some following the debut of Sea Eagles star Dylan Walker for game one, condemnation that Daley vehemently rejected.
Daley paid tribute for Fulton's contribution to the Blues set-up.
""Bob Fulton did an outstanding job in the years he was involved. He was my coach when I was in the Australian team and he has been one of my key mentors," he said.
"I am very grateful for his advice. He was always going to be very hard to replace. Having said that, I couldn't be happier that Sterlo was not only available, but really excited about the opportunity.
"He will bring so much to our squad that is aligned with the culture and team values we aspire to. His knowledge of the game is without peer."
Sterling, who played 13 games for the Blues between 1981-88, predicted a successful future for the state despite losing 10 of the past 11 series against Queensland.
""I feel like I have been asked to step into a situation that is on the verge of something extremely special with the group Laurie has assembled and the decisions he has made during his tenure," Sterling said.
"I am really excited to be involved in something that is a very special part of the game."
The Blues are expected to announce a new base for next year's Origin series before the end of the year.
