Stuart Broad signs on for Hobart in BBL

The Hobart Hurricanes have landed the prized signature of England Test bowler Stuart Broad for the coming BBL season.

English paceman Stuart Broad will make his BBL debut in 2016-17 after signing with Hobart Hurricanes.

In one of the competition's recruitment coups before BBL06, Broad will join Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara as the second international player on the Hurricanes' books.

The world's fourth-ranked Test bowler, Broad will be part of a Hurricanes attack that includes tearaway Shaun Tait.

Broad has taken 358 Test wickets, 121 at one-day international level and 65 in T20 fixtures.

The 30-year-old captained England during the 2012 T20 World Cup, but he has been dropped from the national ODI side to make way for younger players.

During the 2015-16 BBL season, the Hurricanes could post only three wins to finish near the bottom of the table.

But coach Damien Wright expects Broad can help resurrect Hobart's fortunes.

"Stuart Broad has an incredible record in all three formats and his knowledge of the game overall will be a huge asset for our bowling group," Wright said.

"It was key to find someone who could contribute in a big way with the ball and we believe we've signed one of the very best to do this."

Broad is well known to Australian cricket fans after several Ashes campaigns, and he emerged as a villain of the 2013-14 series after he refused to walk following a controversial not-out decision after an edge to Michael Clarke at slip.
