An overzealous student at the NSW Police Force Academy has been charged with impersonating a police officer.

The alleged incident happened when the 20-year-old man spoke to a student at a school in Hurstville on the afternoon of October 21, police say.

On Friday he was arrested at the Goulburn Police Academy and charged with aggravated impersonation of a police officer. He has been granted conditional bail and is due to face Sutherland Local Court next month.
