A university student found alive six days after going missing amid flooding in the Gold Coast hinterland is likely traumatised, authorities say.

Yang Chen was found by Gold Coast Water Police near the Gorge Falls in the Tallebudgera Valley on Monday morning and is being taken to Robina Hospital for medical treatment.
The 26-year-old was reported missing on Wednesday morning by a man she had been walking with in that area, who told police he lost sight of her.

A search party of up to 30 people had been looking for her, with paramedics saying she looked like she'd been through "quite a trauma".
The woman had lost her shoes, but was able to walk to an ambulance after being given a pair of socks by a police officer.

A number of creeks in the area were flooded at the time she went missing.
