Students sit HSC as mountains burn

HSC students at Springwood High School were safe despite flames devouring bushland perilously close to their school.

Springwood High Year 12 students had to endure more pressure than normal as they sat their Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams while flames devoured bushland perilously close to their school.

Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons says all the students got through the modern history exam safely.

"We had some high school students sitting exams in that school, I understand, but they've all been accounted for," he said.

"They're all good, they are in the school.

"We've met up with school authorities, the principal, the teachers and the students are okay. They are all accounted for and they're okay."

Springwood High will be closed for the rest of the week, along with at least six other Blue Mountains schools.

St Columba's High School and St Thomas Aquinas Primary will be closed, along with Yanderra Primary School, Hill Top Primary, Bilton Primary and Faulconbridge Primary.
