Su Oh's strong start at LPGA Q school

Australian Su Oh has made a good start to be tied 18th after the first round of the LPGA Tour qualifying school final stage in Florida

Rising Australian star Su Oh has made a promising start to the LPGA Tour final qualifying school.

Oh shot a two-under-par 70 to be tied 18th after the first round at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The 19-year-old former world No.1 amateur is one of five Australians in a field of 157 players from 26 countries all trying to be among the top 20 after the five rounds who get full LPGA Tour membership for 2016.

Players finishing from 21st to 45th will get partial tour status with limited starts.

The other Aussies all have ground to make up already, with Rebecca Artis tied 79th at one over, Emma De Groot (T109, 2 over), Stacey Keating (T119, 3 over) and Breanna Elliott tied last at eight over.

Oh is bidding to follow in the footsteps of her former Australian amateur teammate Minjee Lee who came through the qualifying school last year, finished 16th on the LPGA Tour money list this year and won the Kingsmill Championship.

American Christine Song and China's Simin Feng lead after the first round, each having shot seven-under 65 on LPGA International's Jones Course.

South Korea's Julie Yang was third after a 66 on the Hills Course.
