Subpoena emails are a scam: police

A new scam is tricking Australians into downloading a computer virus by scaring them about their fictitious court dates.

Australians are being scammed into downloading a computer virus by an email telling them they've broken the law and must attend court.

The email, which claims to be from federal police, advises victims they are being hit with a subpoena before redirecting them to a Russian webpage and prompting them to download the virus-laden file.

It is unclear how many people have been scammed, the AFP says.
