Suicide blast targets Afghan vote official

A suicide bomber has targeted a senior member of Afghanistan's election commission, killing his driver.

Afghanistan's election commission says one of its officials has escaped unharmed after a suicide bomber targeted his vehicle in the capital Kabul, killing his bodyguard and wounding his driver.

The Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan identified the target of Saturday's attack as Hawliya Rodwal, its Kabul provincial director.

Commission spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor said one of Rodwal's security guards was killed and his driver was wounded. He says a number of homes were damaged in the attack, which took place in a residential neighbourhood.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
