Suicide bombing kills 10 south of Baghdad

Ten people are dead and 25 have been wounded after a suicide bomber detonated a car packed with explosives at a checkpoint south of Baghdad.

A suicide driver has detonated a car packed with explosives at a security check-point south of Baghdad, killing 10 people and wounding 25.

The blast happened on Monday as a convoy of Shi'ite paramilitary fighters drove past the check-point in Yusufiya, 15 kilometres south of the Iraqi capital, medical and police sources said.

The attack comes with Iraqi forces launching an offensive on Mosul, the last city that remains under control of Islamic State in Iraq.
