Bill Shorten says the sun will still rise whoever Americans choose as their next president.

After previously claiming Republican hopeful Donald Trump was barking mad, the opposition leader on Wednesday said some of his ideas were way out there, "on the other side of Mars".

"The sun will come up in the morning regardless of who the Americans pick," he added while speaking to 2Day FM radio in Sydney.
