Sunny Boxing Day forecast for Victorians

Victorians should expect sunshine and clear skies on Boxing Day, as temperatures across the state continue to rise.

Victorians will be able to enjoy more fun in the sun on Boxing Day, with clear skies and warm weather forecast.

However parts of the state could reach a sweltering 40 degrees Celsius and the Bureau of Meteorology warns it will get hotter over the coming days.

Mildura in northwest Victoria is expected to see the mercury peak at 41C on Wednesday and many other areas will experience temperatures in the high 30s.

Spectators flocking to the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the Boxing Day Test can expect a rather more pleasant high of 26C, but will need to slap on the suncream.

Temperatures are set to rise throughout the week before dropping off at the weekend.

It was a mild and sunny Christmas Day for Melbourne, with temperatures reaching a high of 23.9C.

Meanwhile residents in Walpeup in northwest Victoria sweated it out in 38.7C heat.

Winds brought cooler temperatures than expected in parts of the state and some coastal areas saw cloud.
