Gold Coast AFL stars Jarrod Harbrow and Rory Thompson are among seven inclusions to an injury-hit Suns team reeling from the withdrawal of Gary Ablett.

The two-time Brownlow Medal winner had been set to play his 300th AFL game on Sunday when Gold Coast face St Kilda at Etihad Stadium, but has dropped out with a calf injury.

The Suns are sitting in 14th spot with a 5-7 record and desperately need a win against the Saints to stay in touch with the top eight.

But they lost Brandon Matera (foot), Kade Kolodjashnij (concussion), Michael Barlow (leg), Aaron Hall (hamstring) and Matt Rosa (suspension), while Mackenzie Willis was dropped.

Matt Shaw, Touk Miller, Callum Ah Chee, Brayden Fiorini and Darcy Macpherson are the other additions for the Suns, while the Saints are unchanged after last week's win over North Melbourne.

Fremantle also lost a Brownlow medallist on Friday when Nat Fyfe dropped out of the squad set to face Geelong on Sunday at Simonds Stadium.

Hayden Ballantyne is in for his first game of the year after suffering a serious hamstring injury during the pre-season competition, while Josh Deluca and Sean Darcy will debut.

Nick Suban and Griffin Logue are the other inclusions for the Dockers.

The Cats regained Tom Hawkins from suspension and also added Mark Blicavs, Jordan Cunico and George Horlin-Smith.

Zac Smith (omitted), Lachie Henderson (groin), Nakia Cockatoo (hamstring) and Jordan Murdoch (omitted) are out of the side beaten by West Coast.

Scott Selwood, despite injuring a hamstring in that game, remains in the line-up and will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness.

Richmond have named an unchanged team for their clash with Carlton at the MCG after last week's last-gasp loss to Sydney.

The Blues brought in Jarrod Pickett, Billie Smedts and Nick Graham.
