Gold Coast have had major doses of contrasting AFL news, securing Peter Wright's contract extension but losing David Swallow for up to half this season.
The Suns confirmed on Tuesday Wright had signed a new deal that would keep him at the club until the end of next season.
There was speculation that Victorian clubs would try to entice the entice the 203cm key forward back to his home state.
While they have locked Wright away for another year, the Suns are resigned to losing Swallow for a significant chunk of this season.
He needed surgery last week after more problems with his left knee.

Coach Rodney Eade has revealed the extent of the problem, saying the midfielder has bone bruising.
"We will back off his running for the next four to five weeks and then see how it goes," Eade told the Gold Coast Bulletin.
"Then he has got to do a pre-season so six weeks minimum after that.
"I couldn't see him playing until close to mid-year, but it might be anywhere from round eight onwards and it could be 10, 12 - we don't know.
"It is in the lap of the gods."
Swallow, Gold Coast's 2014 best-and-fairest winner, only played six games last year because of knee injuries.
