Sunshine state to become the solar state

Queensland will become Australia's solar state, with the looming construction of six large-scale solar generation projects.

The sunshine state will soon become the solar state, with the looming construction of six projects capable of generating enough energy for 120,000 homes.

The large-scale solar generation projects will deliver $500 million of investment and create more than 500 direct jobs in regional Queensland.

Construction is expected to begin next year on the projects, which are among 12 across the country to receive funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

The three largest solar farms will be built in Queensland, with the biggest on the Darling Downs.

Queensland Minister for Energy Mark Bailey has promised electricity prices won't be affected.

"This will have no impact whatsoever," Mr Bailey said.

"It will increase the number of people generating and supplying electricity, which is a good thing in terms of competition."
